American Redstart

American redstarts were among the most common warblers found in Mississippi. They usually were found in woods that were at least 20 years old and around water. However, the stand did not have to be particularly large. Like most of the warblers, the highest level of confirmation one can expect is probable since this bird is usually heard and not seen. The lack of reports from the Gulf Coast are interesting. BBS routes indicate no reports from Mississippi on the coast, but redstarts are found on the Alabama coast (http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/bbs/ htm03/ra2003_red/ra06870.htm).
