Black-bellied Whistling Duck

Black-bellied whistling duck nesting was confirmed in 2003 on Yazoo National Wildlife Refuge (first nesting record in Mississippi). In 2004, nesting was confirmed on Morgan Brake NWR as well. Both refuges are part of the Theodore Roosevelt National Wildlife Complex (http://www.fws.gov/trcomplex/).

In 2009, black bellied whistling ducks successfully breed in the Pascagoula area, adjacent the Grand Bay NERR. Whistling ducks had been observed visiting in small numbers (2-4 birds) for the previous 2 years. Early in the summer of 2009n a pair decided to breed.
