Chipping Sparrow

The distribution of the reports on chipping sparrow indicates that this species is breeding in the suburan habitat of rural Mississippi, such as that found south of Memphis, the eastern side of Mississippi to Hattiesburg, and around McComb. The change in forest types, from hardwood to pine, may explain the lack of reports from the Gulf Coast area while extensive agriculture provides little habitat in the Delta.
