Dickcissels were the dominant species in some of the blocks in the Delta. A second population exists in the black prairie area of northeast Mississippi.

This species is easy to confirm if you have access. Dickcissels build their nests from 4 to 12 feet off the ground. In the open country of the Delta, the few things are high enough off the ground to serve as a nesting site.
