Eastern Kingbird

Eastern kingbirds show an interesting pattern of nesting behavior in Mississippi. For reasons worth exploring, the atlas project did not find eastern kingbirds nesting on the western side of the Delta. Those open, agricultural fields should have been the right habitat for this species. This species clearly adapts well to a variety of habitats, although finding them in DLO and in wooded areas of HCP was difficult.

This species is easiest to confirm when the young join the adults on the fence. When you see three kingbirds sharing a territory during breeding season, it is time to look for the fledgling.
