Great Blue Heron

Great blue herons generally nest in large colonies. Many of these colonies are identified in the records of the Mississippi Museum of Natural History. The random nature of the atlas blocks means that few blocks will have nesting birds. However, since great blues range far for food, it is not unusual to find them in blocks. I have included the reports of observations because I think these records still indicate distribution.
