Horned Lark

Horned larks are common in the agricultural areas of the northern Delta. This species' unique "glass tingling" call may be the first indicator that horned larks are present. If you can follow the calls or wait until they return to the dirt road, the larks are usually easy to pair up. The flocks of larks should be checked for fledglings, the best way to confirm this species.

It is possible that some horned larks are breeding in the black prairie in northeastern Mississippi.
