Killdeer have to be the easiest species to confirm of all birds on the atlas. The young are easy to spot. The adults will go into the broken wing act (distraction display). The nests are usually in a rocky, open area. I have found the nests on walking paths, in parking lots, on gravel roads, and even on a railroad track. Plus, they breed more than once.
