Mallard Duck

Wild populations of mallard ducks breed in the flooded rice fields of the Mississippi Delta. They will also breed in a semi-wild state on ponds and around marinas.

Since mallards can be hear calling from a long distance, this is an easy species to find. Confirmations usually require spotting the mother with young.
