Mourning Dove

Mourning doves are among the most common breeding birds in Mississippi. Multiple breeding pairs existed in blocks where the habitat favored mourning doves. About the only blocks where mourning doves were not found are those around DeKalb where the blocks are heavily wooded.

Mourning doves breed multiple times during the summer. The young are smaller than the adults and the plummage is spotted. The young are often with adults on wires, making it easy to confirm this species.
