Northern Harriers

Two reports of northern harriers are included in the atlas report. The first comes from Leesburg on March 20 and could easily be a hold-over from winter when this species is common in Mississippi. The second report of a single bird is dated June 29 from Pearl River block.

BBS records indicate that the closest breeding population would be in Texas, southwest Missouri, and southern Illinois (http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/id/framlst/i3310id.html).
