Prothonotary warbler

Prothonotary warblers are common breeders in Mississippi along any permanent bodies of water from lakes to ponds to bayous to streams.

Prothonotaries are easy to locate by call, which is a loud, clear sequence of notes. Unlike many warblers who stay hidden in the tops of trees, this bird is worth using the call to pursue the bird. Prothonotaries are often low to the ground and will call in proximity to humans. These characteristics mean that this bird can be placed on territory or paired with just a little effort.
