Red-cockaded Woodpecker

Mississippi has a standing population of red-cockaded woodpeckers, a species on the rare and endangered list. Perpetuating nesting sites on the eastern side of the state exist at Noxubee National Wildlife Refuge and Delta National Forest. The atlas project included two red-cockaded areas (407 Learned and 375 Kirby).
