Wood Duck

Wood ducks are the most common breeding duck in the state. They breed across the state. The hole in the range map in east central Mississippi probably is an indication of a difficult in finding wood ducks on the banks of the Noxubee River and other waterways. The habitat is right for wood ducks, but access is limited.

Wood ducks can be confirmed by talking to local landowners with wood duck boxes or by searching for the fledglings in July and August.
